Google Exploring Dallas for Google Fiber

ISPs don't have "competitors." They have territorial infringers. ISPs make deals with each other to each carve out their own little section of a region and then milk the people who live there. They're so against competition that they're suing the FCC to prevent being forced to do so.

I agree that ISPs don't currently compete with each other. However, google changes that by moving into their territory so I'm not sure what your point is... When Google set out to move into Austin, AT&T reacted by stirring up legal issues to delay their deployments. That is exactly the kind of thing that Google wants to avoid in future markets.

Google doesn't want to be an ISP. Google wants people using lots of internet so they can serve up lots of ads. They don't care about ISP market share. They don't care about being "successful" like a traditional ISP. They want more people using more internet regardless of who provides it. If that means that another company upgrades their internet and Google's service does poorly in a region that doesn't matter. Google wins because Google sells more targeted ads in that city. I also disagree here. I work at a telecommunications company that handles network roll outs for the big four wireless providers and does some fiber work as well for AT&T and Verizon. Google is expected to be our next big customer and provide a huge relief to the slowing wireless business.

Google has also signed on with our competitors and many of them are prepping for nationwide builds.

Google probably doesn't care to continue with the current pricing models. I would expect them to offer free of charge services that come with advertising and data collection somewhere down the line.
