She Googled Her Symptoms, Doctors Ignored Her, Now She’s Dead - A British teenager was convinced her cancer was back after Googling her symptoms. Doctors told her to quit searching and trust their judgment. When she was finally admitted to the hospital, it was too late to save her.

I had a cat once that had chronic stomach problems, stools had not been solid since birth, always seemed to be having some stomach pain when you'd touch it'd midsection. Two vets, multitudes of costly procedures. Several special diets. Random pills and powders to put in his food. Finally found online a community saying raw food fixes some stomach issues for some cats. Asked the latest vet... OH GOD NO NEVER FEED A CAT RAW FOOD!!!

Fuck it. Did it anyway. Cat made a magical complete transformation.

I once had a major burning in my toe, so painful I couldn't even sleep. Smoked some weed, got way worse. Went to ER. I was vegan at the time so I knew it was probably peripheral neuralgia and I needed a B12 test and shot. Said "I think I have B12 deficiency." Explained everything, for some reason mentioned getting high made it worse. ER doc couldn't even hear me. She was preoccupied with the fact that I was HIGH on DRUGS. I almost lost my mind. She referred me to drug counselling, lectured me about nerve damage and drugs (which was probably why my toe was so messed up!). Anyway, I went online, got a b12 injectable overnight delivery. Fixed it. Stopped eating vegan.

I do not think the average vet or doctor is more capable than an individual who is willing to put in the research, work, tests, and trial and error. That said, my experience tells me that that is NOT most people. Most people are not taking their health into their own hands or the health of their pets. So doctors tend to cater towards those individuals, since that is the type of individual which primarily makes up the masses. I am with you. I will go to a vet to neuter and spay. I will go to a doctor for a broken bone or a surgery or something I just can't fix myself. Anything else, I try to do it myself. That said, I think if doctors and vets treated all of patients as if they were anything like you and I, they would most likely do more damage than good.
