My final month in toronto I spent camping for two weeks with 3 weeks left on my lease. Place was mostly moved save a box of donations I was planning to drop off when I got back(still within my rental time). Landlord calls me in the middle of the woods complaining I left garbage there(the donations) and told me he was holding my deposit for that single box. I explained the situation, including the fact the apartment was still mine for 7 more days and I would be back before then to take it but he refused and started shouting. I just hung up on him then received a mass amount of texts demanding my keys asap(i was 8 hours north of the city) while also telling me to never enter the property again. Said fuck it then never answered any texts enjoying my time in the woods. 12 hours later I get a notice from my bank for overdraw that someone tried to cash an 1800 check that bounced(no money in that account) which turned out to be my crazy landlord trying to cash a check for rent that was from 4 months earlier. I immediately called him and told him I wanted my deposit and if he tried that shit again I would take him to court over it(plus many tenant landlord agreement violations like entering property w no notice during my opening months while he reno'd the apartment across from me, trying to charge us for internet yet we had our own etc. All of which I had documented proof of) which was a bluff since I couldn't afford the court fees at the time. Got my money and never talked to him again but sometimes still get a call every once in a while from him that I ignore. I live across the country now and so glad to be free of that crazy motherfucker
