‘Great Resignation’ gains steam as return-to-work plans take effect

The idea that teachers, of all professions, are in “work cages” is a joke.

For starters, they need to be with the kids to properly do their job. Remote education, at least for elementary school, sucks - there’s nothing teachers can do to overcome the shiftiness of it, they can only do their best to make the most of the situation (which many did, thankfully).

Second, kids need to be around other kids. Being home all day, even with siblings, is not good for them.

But back to my initial reaction: teachers have been on what many workers would consider a flex schedule forever. They work much more than people think, but not all of that time is in a classroom with children. School ends in the afternoon, has a shitload of holidays and long weekends, weeks off throughout the year, and a summer. There is night and weekend work, contrary to what so many people seem to think - but that can be done at home, and I would argue is typically balanced by the previously mentioned time off. They’re also not at a desk in front of a screen all day.

If you didn’t like your job or just want something different then I wish you the best. But fuck right off like you were in a similar situation to oh so many office drones or whatever, that’s nonsense.
