Group projects in school are bs

Thinking that you won’t get penalised in the workplace for having a rubbish team member is naive.

There are weak leaks in every chain, and everyone, including you and I, are bad at one thing or another. Teams work together, and if you think you can do your bit alone without supporting your team, you’ll be rightly recognised as a poor team player.

This doesn’t necessarily mean you need to go above and beyond for others all the time, it’s not black or white all or nothing, everyone needs to exist in the grey area. This usually means helping others make up for their shortcomings by playing to their strengths instead. Instead of splitting work up equally, can that person do more of one thing and less of another? Even at university when marks/grades are often split equally (although nowadays there’s often a “contribution” score), you need to recognise when others need support and offer it when you can. The next time you’re feeling rough, are having a bad day, don’t understand etc, you’ll be grateful to be part of a team instead of a group.
