The Guardian: I work in an NHS Covid ward – and I feel so angry

I think a lot of people live way above their means and thats when being on minimum wage becomes a problem. I know plenty of people who are happy on minimum wage not even working full time and they can afford to live happily in fact I know some people who literally had a year off work, they got to explore the mountains and become very good at warzone.

My partner works on a covid ward has had to watch multiple people die without being allowed to see family, has to tell family bad news over the phone. Has to repeatedly take abuse because people take out their frustration on her when they cant see their family. She takes home £1700 a month. On the other hand I know someone who is on £2500 furlough and has not worked since last March.

For every highly paid doctor there is 20 poorly paid nurses taking more of the emotional burden than anyone else has from this pandemic. Ask any nurse on a covid ward most would have probably rather lived on minimal wage, furlough or universal basic income over the last year. Its not like they had the option to spend their money. And in fact a lot are changing jobs and careers.
