Hate being tethered to my toddler

I am the exact same way and I REALLY want to know who the hell decided that kids need us to play with them for hours and hours a day. It isn’t normal in most of the rest of the world, and it isn’t something my mom remembers being common for her generation, either. I know so many moms who force themselves to play with their kids the majority of the day, and they absolutely hate it but they have some kind of weird idea that it’s “necessary” for development? I’ve always found that my daughter is super interested in cooking, gardening, cleaning, errands, organizing, even just sitting nearby and watching me work on my schoolwork… ever since she was a toddler, we stay busy with productive stuff and we don’t do any “play” together. She plays with other kids, but with me we just do… “real” stuff, I guess? And she’s never had a problem with it.
