I saw D10 when I was 14 in Durham NC, in the late 80's, minus the weird black mark on the side. I was with a friend and it was late at night or early in the morning depending on perspective; around 3am. We had sneaked out of his house during a sleep-over. It was a bona fide, life-altering close encounter.

Here's what we saw: while walking along Picket Road, near Durham Academy, a horse in a pasture ran up to us and was freaking out, flashing its teeth and making these weird backwards-sucking whinnying noises, and shaking its head and clomping back and forth, and then it just went dead silent, staring at us, and everything else went silent too: no sounds of distant late-night traffic, no crickets or cicadas, just dead and complete stillness/silence. And then everything lit up blue, like a flash of lightening, but it sustained--it was no flash. My friend and I simultaneously looked up, and about fifty yards above our head--directly centered over us--was a perfect sphere of blue light, the size of a house. Before I had time to process what was happening, the light went out and it was just a jet-black orb silhouetted against the Milky Way, close enough that I could have throne a rock and hit it; and then it was suddenly in movement without any acceleration, like an 8-ball hit softly with a pool stick, and then it blurred out of site--not like it was cloaked--but like it moved away so fast my eyes couldn't perceive it, as if it had been yanked from its position to the horizon. The only consequence of us sharing it with our parents was that we got grounded for sneaking out. Well, the other consequence was that I knew from that moment on that there are things happening on earth that we don't understand.
