High school portrayal and media.

And just for arguments sake

/r/japanlife, for starters, is a sub for the people who are currently, or are about to, live in Japan. OP does not live in Japan; he claims that he only came to Japan to visit.

So people who lived here but moved are no longer welcome? And what is your definition of "about to?" Where are you drawing the line in the sand?

The vast majority of people on this sub are people who came to Japan after their high school graduation

I'd say that there is a decent amount of people who either work in High Schools or who have kids in school.

and those who actually have probably can't speak English well enough to answer the question, so not that many people can answer his question anyways.

This is just bullshit. Anyone on this subreddit can speak English fine. If they did meet your requirements, they would be currently in Japanese high school which means they would have completed at least 5 years of English class. We can argue the Japanese educational system if you like but the majority of students can write and read in English pretty damn well and this is not including any of the bilingual or multicultural backgrounds.

And we don't have a rule about only asking questions that the vast majority of people can answer.

Finally, "discussions" (and I need to throw quotes on that word, because OP isn't the first person on reddit to ask this sort of question, and I've seen how the discussion ended) like this should stay in /r/japan.

If you delete every single thing that has already been asked on here, there will be no fucking discussions left. As I said, I don't find this one terribly interesting or thought provoking, I'm mildly irritated by the fact that you simply deleted something because didn't like the topic. We've had mods do this before and you will quickly learn, as they did, that thing are better off left alone. Except that fucking bot and spam filter.

Oh, and when you comment that something has been deleted, you should be wearing the mod hat.
