I'm a alumnus of this K-12 school and went there from elementary through high school. One if my parents still sees Coach Diate regularly and I've known him since elementary school.
I'm a woman and no longer religious for context. The school doesn't have uniforms, but the dress code had an insane number of rules (including no t-shirts for guys, collared shirts only). Many teachers thought the dress code was too strict or outright dumb and didn't enforce it in their classrooms although they were supposed to. It's decided by the upper administration, who are a bit old school and mostly go to conservative churches (by CA standards).
Most of the rules govern girls clothing. Some of them were dumb. I visited my high school relatively recently and apparently the dress code has changed a lot. Guys can wear t-shirts and some annoying rules for girls were removed.
Afaik the junior high dress code is still insanely a pain in the ass.
I was a kid who pretty much always followed the rules and when I got dress code violations for stupid shit. Like my shirt rising a few mm above the line of my jeans with my hands fully extended above my head so you could see a line of midriff in this situation. They made me change into PE clothes for the day over that stupidity.
Diate is strict with his baseball team, but also a notorious jokester and has been for years. Especially wirh other teachers and students he knew well. We didn't interact a ton, but whenever we did he was always friendly and often made jokes. This is a joke. Diate is a good guy, and has been there I think almost 20 years.
Also the men never talk to girls about dress code issues, they report it to a female admin or teacher if it's 'egregious' by Christian standards (basically if the girl is showing a lot of cleavage or literal butt crack they tell a female teacher). It's awkward as fuck for everyone and they have it an generally don't report girl dress code violations to women teachers.
Lots of teachers, every student and most parents have always hated the dress code, and it was a constant topic we complain about for years.
This is 100% without a doubt a joke. Honestly as an alumnus and a girl subject to these dumbass rules I found a few things funny, but I can't fucking believe he posted that on YouTube.
Diate won't be fired, he's a beloved coach and last I heard is well respected by parents and alumni, even though he's sometimes a hardass. Thee admin is gonna chew him out for sure. It's one thing to show this as a joke to students who will know it's a joke in spite of the awkwardness because it's Diate. It's another to publish it to the world who might not realize it.
