Honda is planning an 11-speed, 3-clutch transmisioon

  1. 500ms is not slow or laggy by any means

Well, there's no point in talking then as we have completely different opinions on what constitutes a slow and laggy shift. You might be fine with waiting for 1 full second for a downshift, but others want the car to engage in the next gear in less than 2 seconds. 4 second long shifts just isn't acceptable, and if 8 second long shifts are fine for you, then tell you car manufacturers that quarter-minute long shifts are fine with you but don't expect others to buy cars where you've told manufacturers to shift within a half of a minute of the gas pedal being pressed.

  1. In traffic it's purely subjective but to me it makes zero difference when moving 2 mph

Cool, so are you asking yourself the question or others? I mean, it sounded like you originally posed the question to others, but if you're just talking to yourself, you might want to make it clearer since the implication was that you were asking why others wanted this triple clutch transmission. I mean, obviously, you've already made up your mind...

  1. I never once said my view was fact and that people are wrong. Genuinely curious how it makes any difference on a commute...

It's exceptionally clear that you're deluding yourself as the question you asked to others has been answered and you keep having a mind to inject your own opinion and argue against it. You aren't curious, you're just asking a question and ignoring the answers you receive so that you can have an opportunity to tell other people that they're incorrect. Otherwise your response to the first guy would have been "Oh, I see, thanks." Or at the very least, if you were confused by why "200ms" (which is actually closer to 500ms as I already noted) feels so long, my answer explaining to you that cognitive psychology has shown time perception is extremely variable based on the state of mind of an individual and, unless you are well under 50ms, the perception of the shift is going to be extremely long especially in moments of stress, and UX principles has shown us that the perception of something taking a while (indeed, even if it were only 200ms) is stressful and displeasing under the circumstances that you are genuinely under the impression that the time matters.

However, you've simply shown that you are uninterested and not curious in the answers to the questions you pose. If you were, your curiousity would have been sated and you would have been a much happier person because of it. You're displeased because you're not swaying others' opinions because what you really wanted was to change other people's minds, which you are currently failing at because you don't understand, and if you understood, you'd see that there's nothing you can do to convince other people that 500ms downshifts is reasonable under the stress of a commute and that an instanteous shift would make you feel better and have more fun in your commute, precisely for the reasons I've already amply explained.

  1. genuinely asking for more details

No you weren't. You were not genuine, you're actually being quite rude to everyone and clearly have no desire to understand anyone. I'm actually giving up like everyone else precisely because you aren't being genuine.
