How to be a better counselor

Have you seen a therapist before? Maybe talk to one, and that can help you develop yourself quite well.

Therapy is super helpful. I met with a licensed social worker for depression and an eating disorder seven years ago, then I saw a therapist a year ago for just clinical depression, and then I saw a counselor for dealing with death of four close friends this year. I think EVERYONE can benefit from talking to a therapist of some sort.

They give you different viewpoints and challenge your ways of thinking. Some take an almost Socratic method and make you realize you do have an answer to situations or problems that make you uncertain.

I talk to some of my friends and realize I'm much more emotionally stable than they are. However, I also carry a deep sense of empathy, having once struggled with some stuff myself.

I'm a bit harsh/distant with my coworkers right now, but they know if shit hits the fan, then I get serious and will listen. Most people just need a good shoulder to cry on the feeling that someone cares. Showing how you care varies from person to person.
