None of us spend any portion of our day wondering how Asia is doing, and if we see some article about some new technology like bicycle parking in Japan we think “oh shit that’s cool, good for them.”

Waving it in our face about “Asia is progressing and will overtake America” doesn’t work because we don’t care. If it doesn’t affect our day to day lives we don’t care.
