How does the Sire V7 fare as a passive bass?

As somebody that is on the search for a new bass, it's almost impossible to not stumble upon the V7 and it's even harder to ignore all of the praise it has been given. General consensus has it that it stands tall against MIA Fenders while only costing Squier dollars. The amount of times I have been a click away from buying one of these is stupid and yet I still have my quandaries, the biggest having to do with the bass being primarily active.

I know that there is a function to switch it to passive, but the selling point for this buy seems to be its active pre-amp. While I haven't had much personal experience, I find that I much prefer the sound of passive basses from watching YouTube videos and A-B-ing records with the two kinds of basses. Active basses just sound too powerful for my liking, they don't sit as naturally in a mix and sound a little bit artificial to my ears. With this said, it's easy to just ditch the Sire and go and buy a Fender, but at half of the price (at least where I live), the V7 looks too good to give up.

So there's my question, should I buy the Sire if I'm probably going to have it set in the passive setting most of the time, or should I savwe my pennies and get a Fender MIM. I should say that I haven't actually compared passive to active basses in a store setting or anything like that, I'm just going off from what I hear through videos and songs. Considering that I probably won't be gigging anytime in the foreseeable future, should I give the Sire and its active pre-amp a chance, given that I'm playing for myself and that it doesn't matter how I sit in a mix?
