I don’t have an informed opinion on doodle breeders, but my understanding of hybridization is that a healthy tested golden bred to a healthy tested poodle would generally be equally or more likely produce as healthy or healthier offspring than the none hybrid offspring within those two breeds.

Not specific to any types of —-doodles or other fad hybrids or purebreds that attract reckless breeders looking to jump in an make a quick buck, but generally there is no definitively greater health or vigor advantage between purebred or mixed breed dogs. The only study cited in Wikipedia that shows a concrete difference between purebred and hybrid dogs notes: “In 2013, a study found that mixed breeds live on average 1.2 years longer than pure breeds.”

My previous post clearly said that even mutt or hybrid breeding stock need to be throughly screened, tested, and selected, and I agree that most breeders of such dogs don’t (since those unregistered dogs don’t command as high a price as purebreds or receive as much oversight as breed organizations or registries provide), but heterosis/hybrid-vigor is an observable phenomenon (even if more so in other animals) and generally mutts are nevertheless on in average at least as healthy as purebreds on average.

My anecdotal impression is that fad breeds or hybrids are equally susceptible to an influx of irresponsible breeders. I remember when “101 Dalmatians” resulted in an influx of relatively unhealthy and poor temperament dalmations being bred. Now unhealthy bull dogs are a fad.
