How do you guys splice solid to stranded? Tips, Tricks?

Not a sparky: Any time I have has to do this, I basically do the same thing you state. Easy and durable for most use cases.

Additionally, sometimes I also twist the stranded as tight as it will go as well as flux and silver tin. Then I twist and turn a wire nut on the end, followed by a 2x or 3x wrap of 3m electrical tape around the insulation, followed by another piece on the wire nut that crosses over to the tape over the insulation and back again to keep the wire nut in place.

I do the latter for things I never intend to touch a second time.

For permanent splices (like for long wire antenna joins), I will put a piece of marine grade shrink wrap on the wire (loose), do the NASA endorsed splice method and then move the heat shrink over the splice and seal it with a heat gun or pencil butane torch.
