How to Kick Your Adult Slacker Out of the House: How to Toss the Boomerang Kid

I don't know if there's any programs or grants for trades here - most technical schools as far as I can tell are semi-expensive (just like college) but if I can get into a trade union, my apprenticeship will be free, and I'll get a certain amount of working paid hours guaranteed to meet my journeyman requirements.

Well at least that's something. In Canada where I am they basically throw money at you to get into the trades, or at least they do in construction. Rural America may be a bit different, but you might be surprised at what turns up.

I love self-sufficiency, and although I don't exactly enjoy being single, thems the breaks. I've had a number of long term relationships that didn't work out, and I'm just sick of dealing with it. So there you have it.

I just want to say that I'm a woman who's currently doing the self-sustainability, living small, frugal, FI, BIFL, DIY thing with my partner, and I was the one who got him into it. He was formerly a total city guy and now can't live any other way.

There's lots of us out there, so don't lose hope on the relationship thing.

I'd love to get into wood working - definitely already have all the tools at my disposal.

You should, especially if you already have the tools as they're usually the most prohibitive part in terms of cost. People are getting really into buying locally made/artisanal products and art, and now is the perfect time to get in on that and hone your skills.

Plus there's honestly nothing I've found in my life more meditative than working with my hands to create something physical. Woodworking is great for that. It's the kind of stuff you can pass on to your grandkids, you know? You can't do that with office papers.
