How much is your student debt, and what has life been like post-college?

I agree and really the biggest reason people don't go to community college is really because of the lack of any social activities or community. Several years ago when I graduated high school I realized that I wasn't the greatest student. My grades weren't terrible but I just didn't really apply myself in high school. I ended up going to a community technical college that was cheap and taught me exactly what I wanted to know. I realized I wasn't going to get financial aid because of my parents income and I didn't want to take out massive loans. The first year of going there was really rough. I lost all of my friends over night because they all went off to universities. They were all of partying having fun, meeting people and I was stuck in my home town going to community college working a crap job. I had no debt but also no life..

Eventually things turned and I met several working professionals in my night classes. They hooked me up with a sweet job that I was not qualified for at all and at age 18 I was working as a Technical Analyst for a fortune 500 company full-time. This experience was worth more than the degree itself and two years later by the time I graduated I already had a job that I would've never gotten if it wasn't for connections and zero debt.

The thing that really puts community college into perspective for me is that it's a slice of the real world. You see people there who have been through some real shit. I met a guy who was living on a friends couch while taking care of his mentally handicapped son. He was laid off and had been out of work for two years and there were a lot more stories like him. Almost everyone else there also worked day jobs full-time and barely pulled together the strength to show up for class, but somehow made it. I would even say graduating from community college seems more rewarding in a different kind of way, than graduating from a four year school. Overall I highly recommend it.. It saved me a ton of money and I've been accepted to a large state school that took almost all of my credits.
