How was your Easter weekend?

My Easter was happy as it's ever been. It's the first Easter in a long time that I didn't have to spend with churchgoing family members, politely discussing my ex-obsession: religion. Instead, I woke up and vaped, did my freewriting practice (my new obsession, somewhat), then went to brunch with my roommate, on our first stop out of town ("town" in this case is NYC). By 4 we were in north Jersey, away from the city noise, away from the gritty wind, away from the smell.

Out the back porch of his girlfriend's and her roommate's house, a small lake awaits, about 20 steps from the door. Beyond the lake winds this long hiking trail that leads to a secluded bluff, a treehouse apiary, and a gorgeous fucking sunset. Definitely an awesome smoke spot when it gets a little warmer up there.

We got together this weekend for the sole purpose of a writer's retreat. Sitting around our dinner plates already scraped clean, we took turns discussing our dreams as writers, our most damning obstacles, and our intentions for this weekend to be a turning point. Then, we broke the circle and reported for duty. For the next several hours, we sat at our respective computers and dragged ourselves through day one of life's longest haul.

Then we celebrated. Broke out the ganj, the beer, and the Tibetan singing bowl (we're cool like that). Stayed up late reminiscing, arguing about philosophy, philosophizing about arguments, playing guitar, and getting to a [7]. Didn't have to put up with church, theological discussion, or anyone trying to save my soul from hell. Just the practice of living beautifully, and the closeness of friends who want the same. Happy Easter!
