A hundred Oil & Gas people are being offered transfers to Tulsa. All we hear is that you're racist, Jesus freaks w/bad schools and nothing to do but sports. True or not?

I moved to Tulsa from Utah about a dozen years ago. I don't mind the southern Baptists much, to be honest. They're quite a bit nicer than the Mormons I grew up with. Are there any Mormons in Denver? ;-) It tripped me out the first time I asked someone how they were and they said, "Blessed". Uhh, you're SUPPOSED to say "Fine. I'm doing fine." Some people probably think that's (blessed) an arrogant response. I thought it was pretty humble. I was glad that organizations like Upward Bound offered to let my kids play team sports when they were much younger and it gave them a different perspective than my mainly agnostic world view. I really enjoy living in Tulsa after 12 years here. I still miss the mountains and the summers here can be a bit stifling, but some springs here are better than some of the years I spent living in southern California, weather wise--seriously. We spend a lot of time out door here grilling, running the smoker, drinking a cold beer and getting together with friends because the weather is mild many months out of the year. The mosquitoes get a bit out of hand in the summer, but that's mainly a mid-west phenomenon (being from a town above the 5000 ft elevation, mosquitoes never seemed to be as bad as I've experienced here in the summer).

Music: it's like you can't throw a rock in Tulsa without hitting someone that plays some kind of music. People in OKC say that we get all of the good concerts and people in Tulsa say OKC has the better shows. There is a really good opera and ballet company and yet you also have venues like Cain's Ballroom.

Avoid TPS (Tulsa Public Schools). Many of the schools in that district don't even have computers. A multimillion dollar bond just passed that will probably help with that, but many of the schools in TPS are just plain sad. The better districts IMO are Jenks, Bixby, Broken Arrow and Union.
