I'm not sure if you misread that part of my spiel since it was really long and maybe rambly, but I specifically stated that the "greatest generation" committed many atrocities towards minorities and I have no problems with that part of Soldier Boy's character. I had a problem with him not participating in WW2 at all.

I do think making him a war hero is better for the overall narrative, but I think if the writers just didn't want to make him a war hero, you bring up a great point that perhaps the truth could be he was actually in Japan, and even the writers could go so far as having him participate in the firebombing of cities and killing civilians. That would still be better for the story, in my opinion, than him just being a super-powered actor.
