I'm Kevin O'Leary and I'm running for leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada. Ask me anything!

Good afternoon Mr. O'Leary. I will ask my questions first, then put them in context. What would be your preferred approach to address Canada's wide range of solid waste diversion rates? Do you plan to increase subsidies for new waste management and/or diversion businesses, especially in provinces with high rates of landfilling?

Research over the past 10 years has indicated a wide range of dedication to solid waste diversion (such as recycling, composting, and incineration) throughout Canada. It has become clear that each province between Alberta and Quebec (plus Nfld.) struggle to increase waste diversion efforts. Organic waste (leaves, grass, food) and waste generated by non-residential sources in particular tend towards landfill disposal, despite decades of proven technologies and methods to recycle or reuse common waste materials.

I think that if you make this a part of your platform in any way, you will win over many environmental-minded voters and job seekers alike. A recent article (http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2210670716307405), agreed with an older American report (2001) that waste diversion facilities employ more people than disposal facilities (4.7 vs. 2.5 per 1000 tons of waste).
