Instead of the normal "this is where I die" thread, tell me about when you were certain one of your friends/family was going to die (and hopefully didn't).

I have a few of these stories, but I'll share the most recent.

I am an avid motorcycle rider; I try not to take too many risks on the street, but it does occasionally happen. About a year ago, a few buddies and I were riding around some of the twistier roads in my area being led by someone who was definitely a professional motorcycle racer in a past life. All of us were going a bit faster than our comfort zone, and the leader made a sketchy double yellow line pass by a van as we were nearing a blind corner. Being the third bike in line, I already noped out of that pass, but my buddy in front of me decided to try it. He entered the on-coming lane at a speed about 1.5x the safe speed you could take the corner. He gets next to the van and a car starts coming around the blind corner. Now he's excessively speeding, in the on-coming lane, passing a van, with a car coming at him.

My only thought was, "Well, this is where he dies." Calm, cool, and collected, I'm just watching, anticipating the outcome of gore and parts strewn throughout the road.

Somehow, he snakes inbetween the cars and makes the corner. We all pulled over, took a deep breath, shot the shit for a minute and unanimously, decided not to ever do that again.
