Josh Brolin Joins Denis Villeneuve's Star-Studded ‘Dune’ Film

There's just no way he can please the fans

I'm going to out-hipster the hipsteriest of hipsters.

He can't do shit to the real fans. As a fan of Dune I have neither high nor low expectations for this movie. I don't even care about it. This movie is not for me.

As a fan of Dune, I read. I read and reread the six books of the series and that is all. I read them, I talk about them with other people who read them and then I read them again. That is all. That is all there is in the Dune universe and all there will ever be.

Don't get me wrong. I don't begrudge people their movies. I rarely even get fired about the absolute trashing that Frank's son is attempting to do to his legacy. I've got my six books and that's all I need. I'm glad that other fans are getting the movie they appear to desire. I don't want to denigrate them by calling them second-tier or anything like that. We are just at different stages in our fandom. It is what it is.

Really. Good for people if they enjoy the movie. Even better if it sends some of them to read the book. Best of all if they go on to read all six. That is all I hope or expect from it. If it ends up being entertaining or true to the series I'll be delighted but I'm neither hoping for that nor expecting it nor am I going to be disappointed if it ends up 'failing' me in some respect or another. It really won't. No matter how good it is, it isn't going to be one of the books and those are all that matters.
