Because most religions believe that the alternative to following through with their religion is eternal torture in Hell. I'm a baptist so I believe the only criteria to get into heaven is full-heartedly believing in his existence and that Jesus died for us.

Atheists don't believe in existence after death, so you don't have an incentive to try and convince me God isn't real. Of course it's abused by people who think they're special because of it and my religion doesn't even follow the pope or have any real figure heads, I try to condemn those people.

It's hard to pass off our will to "save" you as something that would genuinely save you, but that's the reality of religion. At least from your perspective there has to be some reason such a huge percentage of the world still believes in God today. I can't tell you why, I can only hope that you understand yourself someday.
