I keep hearing how 'IT' is different from other horror movies and supposedly going to impact how future ones are made, but I don't get it - explain please?

Its nothing special. Saying this is a real disservice to so many good horror movies out there. The only really eye opening thing about this movie is that how much high praise is out there for such a meh movie.

Now, its been a horrible horrible summer of movies. Especially the last month or so. Despite being just an okay movie, IT is still much better than most of what we have had. I am not trying to trash it. Its not a bad couple of hours in the theatre. It has some decent scenes. In fact its one of the most objectively "just OK" movies you could possibly see. There is really no hidden message or theme that someone could be missing or some perspective that might make someone under appreciate this. Its not particularly heavy on FX. No mind fuck or anything like this. Some decent performances etc. I would actually encourage everyone to watch this so you can go back and judge the reviewers and see who was really trying to hype this beyond what it is. The creepiest thing about this movie is the way social media is trying so hard to push this movie.
