Keto, Body image, Food addiction (body dysmorphia?)

I did paleo too, not for weight loss but for some health issues I was trying to diagnose, so I did it with the mindset of maintaining my weight, not losing, so "restriction" was not even an issue then. But it did not help at all with bingeing because I would binge all the time on yams/squash, coconut, fruit, larabars, etc. I know it's not about the availability of snacks, because I snack a lot on keto too still and do let myself eat whatever I want. Right now in the house I have 4 types of chocolate, 3 types of nut butters, 4 types of cheese, a ton of sausage/bacon, and endless microwave cake possibilities for which I can invent recipes at will. Just a few weeks ago this situation would have driven me to an endless binge (in fact I did struggle at first with binging on nut butters and dark chocolate. i even binged on eggs bacon and mayo - yes it's possible). Now I don't even feel like eating any of them, maybe I'll have some later.

That was a long way to answer your question, but yes I think for me keto was essential to breaking the binge/snack (not even necessarily snack, I would binge on normal food too, even just meat) addiction, regardless of whether the foods to binge on contain carbs or not. There are a few reasons for this (off the top of my head):

Keto changes your body chemistry. When I eat anything but keto, I get hungry for more food very easily. I don't feel deprived for food I can't eat, I feel deprived for not being able to eat at all. Keto has brought me to a point where I feel satiated and rarely hungry, and when I do eat, whether it's a whole meal or a junk snack, I feel satisfied easily. Super hypothesizing here but: Not only is my blood sugar stable now, most likely it has brought up my dysfunctional leptin levels. When leptin is low, your body thinks it's starving even when it's not, which can explain how obese people feel starved despite eating many calories and having a very high body fat. These changes might happen with paleo... If you eat low-carb paleo. At that point you might as well just go keto, imo.
