Kids at my school use their smartphones to change the channel from the closed circuit TV to cartoons everyday

At my high school about 10 of the classrooms had the same TVs (this was 1995 or 1996, they were little 15" JVCs or something.) One day in math class our TV turned on a couple times randomly... I found out later that one of my friends had brought in a remote control from home, and realized my brother had the same TV in his bedroom.

The next day we tried my brother's remote before class and it also worked, so now we had two remote controls in the classroom. We let a couple other people know what was going on, waited for a day where the teacher was going to be facing the board a lot and spent the day messing with the TV.

The teacher checked her desk because she thought someone took her remote and put it in her pocket... Once she realized it was still turning on and off she thought it was something she was doing. She'd walk back and forth across the front of the classroom and stomp on the floor in certain areas to see if it was activating like that somehow, so whenever she stomped her foot in one place we'd change the channel, and if she stomped her foot in another we'd turn it on or off. Once she sat back down after stomping the TV off, we waited about 5 or 10 minutes so she would think it had ended, then turned it back on and started flipping through the channels.

She finally realized that someone had another remote, but we had them on separate sides of the classroom and enough people who were in on it to keep passing them around to keep her from catching anyone. We eventually got the TV to the Spanish channel and one of those ridiculous game shows were on, there was a guy trying to climb up a greased pole... Everyone in class started cheering for him and chanting "GO! GO! GO!" so the teacher gave up, sat down, and called the office to get one of the narcs to come down and get the class under control.

Somehow one guy who had nothing to do with it got blamed and was put in detention for the rest of the day.

I never understood why she didn't just unplug the TV.
