Kitchen compost bin recommendations?

For as long as I can remember, my parents have just had a tupperware container sitting on the countertop and every evening someone would just go out and empty it into the compost. So nothing would ever spend more than 12 hours or so sitting in there, usually far less than that, so even though it had no lid nothing would ever go smelly.

If there was ever an unusual amount of compostable waste because someone was cooking an unusual amount of food or whatever, we would just collect the compostable waste in a bowl or something and take it out straight away....

I wouldn't overthink this. If you have a compost tumbler right outside, just collect your waste in whatever vessel you have and just empty it once a day. Combine it with a trip to the mail box or watering your garden or whatever.
