Save the scraps!

I don’t understand the phenomenon of gift wrapping. I suppose it is some element of like surprise or achievement in unwrapping that adds to the satisfaction of the gift receiver.

To add insult to injury the nature of Christmas gift giving seems to encourage buying useless things like magic bullets or cheap plastic children’s toys to be used a few times and discarded in the closet, and it really creates artificial wants/needs.

Like “what do you want for Christmas?” Well I didn’t actually want anything off the top of my head but let me come up with some shit. Rather than, oh hey Timmy is banging spoons on pots and singing maybe he needs some more tools to express himself with lets get him a guitar and invest in his music education.
