Kroger CEO states no King Soopers store closures / layoffs in Boulder to Congress if Kroger / Albertson merger goes forward

I’m out in westminster and there is an even peppering of safeways and soops, in at least one case even across the street from each other, so I imagine nearly half of grocery locations will be closed down. We can only hope those spaces would get snatched up by another competitor, but who knows. If I loose the soops within walking distance of where I just moved, it will be pretty sad for surrounding neighborhoods if it doesn’t get replaced. Traffic will be insane around either location if one closes. Not sure what will become of the vacancies and the businesses in the same lots if a competitor doesn’t come in, they are the only significant anchors of consumer traffic in their respective locations.

There should be some defined stipulations on mergers about how many locations are acceptable to close, especially with essential markets like groceries, because I predict some sudden food deserts for people without cars popping up from this.
