The Legacy of Both Mindys on The Mindy Project

I don't think Mindy's show was meant to focus on diversity. So if that's what you are looking for with any South Asian lead, you'll be understandably disappointed. The Mindy Project's underlying seriousness is all about feminism. If you go into it looking for that, you'd really enjoy it. I know women of so many cultures love her show. To add the desi cultural dimension to her show would honestly have made the show quite different, and I think she was wary of that. If you actually watch the series, she never shits on desi men or portrays them as less desirable like Bend it Like Beckham, for example, makes young desi men seem like sexist jerks. She could have included a few more desi guys, yes. I think she purposely chose white men to either neutralize the concept of race or contrast their privilege, and it fit in with her character being very ABCD. I've watched every episode and genuinely/honestly think this. I'm curious to see what her future works will include.

I don't think automatically including South Asians of the opposite sex means much in itself.
