Liberals at 34.3%, the Conservatives at 32.1%, the NDP at 23.0%

I was undecided for the entire campaign until a few days ago. When the campaign started, I was considering voting for any of the 4 major parties (CPC, LPC, NDP, Green). While I don't agree with a lot of what Harper has done, I'm not a blind partisan who would choose an ABH strategy. My main reason for not supporting them comes down to their claims of being the most fiscally responsible party, but when you examine this claim, it's simply not true. I want a party that will manage a budget responsibly (I don't have a problem with short term deficits as long as the money is used to grow the economy, rather than on government bloat and tax cuts).

I am wary of the NDP, having grown up in Ontario during the Rae days, but their message of hope was inspiring, and I considered them very seriously. Unfortunately, as the campaign went on, I could no longer ignore Mr. Mulcair's failure to provide a costed platform. They have been in opposition for 4 years, and this election date was not a surprise. I simply cannot trust someone with my vote when they promise the world but also promise balanced budgets. The math simply does not make sense.

I like Elizabeth May, she is very smart and an excellent debater. I have in fact voten Green the last two elections (mainly because the first time, they received monies for each vote, and the second time more as a protest vote). It's too close this time, though, so I have to hope that electoral reform is passed and we can actually get some representation for a key issue that will face us this century.

I did not agree with the LPC when they elected Trudeau they leader. I do feel that he had not done a whole lot to earn it, and would rather have seen someone like Marc Garneau get the nod, but what's done is done. Throughout the campaign, he has grown and impressed me more and more. I don't agree with everything he plans on doing, but there is more there that I like than not. Infrastructure work is deseprately needed. Shifting the tax burden slightly to those earning over $200k seems reasonable (I don't even care if he didn't lower taxes on the middle class). Legalizing MJ doesn't matter to me, but I'd prefer it be legal and regulated and taxed than illegal. I'm willing to overlook C-51 support because I know it didn't matter, but I do intend to judge him on whether or not he follows through if he becomes PM.

So that was the thought process of a truly undecided voter during this campaign. I am now planning on voting for my local LPC candidate.
