What are your real life horror movie moments?

TL;DR: House sat for a friends mother. Came home to multiple things wrong. Pretty sure I almost became the first victim in a slasher film.

Going to go ahead and post mine since this story made me think of this question: Last year around Halloween my friend asked me to watch her mother's house to keep and eye on her birds and dog while they went to New Orleans for an event. To give you a visual of the house it was designed by her mother to have as many windows as possible. The place is full of uncurtained windows. She also lives about 20-30 minutes from town and the nearest neighbor would be a 5-10 minute walk from her house and when it gets dark, it get really really dark. The plan was for me to stay there from the Thursday before Halloween to the Sunday after it. Everything was normal except for the fact that the mother had taken in a 16 year old girl temporarily. That Saturday (the first of November) after being gone most of the afternoon I pulled into the driveway at around 9, it was pretty dark at that point and the lights in the house were all off which is unusual because the mother prefers having some lights on. I assumed that the girl staying forgot to turn them on before she left until I noticed that the inside dog was outside barking at my car as I pulled up. The front door was wide open and at this point I probably should have called the police, but I didn't. I tried to get the dog in first, but he's not the most well trained dog and ran away every single time. After a few attempts I went inside where I discovered the power was out. I called the mother to make her aware of the situation and told her that I would called her back once I checked on the birds. Then I called my own mother to tell her about what happened and also because I'm really afraid of the dark. I grabbed a flashlight and checked on the birds/made sure the electronics and valuables were still around. Nothing was missing, but there is a cabinet where they store their wine and I noticed that it was open. I made a mental note that the girl staying must have been sneaking into their wine , but didn't bother closing it and instead went back outside to try to get the dog inside. Once I finally got him inside I noticed that the wine cabinet which was open moments ago was now closed. Maybe it was a breeze or not well secured, but at the moment with everything else that had happened I was pretty panicked. My mom told me that I needed to get out off the house and leave immediately. Which was exactly what I did. I talked to the mother of my friend once I felt I was a safe distance from the house to tell her what I had experienced only to find out that her house was the only one that's power was out. Nothing unusual happened after that and my mom and I laughed at how ridiculous the situation was after the fact because it seriously felt like I was in the middle of a movie.
