In principle it shouldn’t affect memes. In practice it will. To stay on the right side of the law, sites will adopt content detectors, which will see that pic of Drake and know that someone has the copyright to it. Now, you’ve altered the pic for satire which is fine under the law as it is written, but you’re not arguing with the euro police about this, you’re arguing with a machine. Just like youtube is now, speaking to an actual person to appeal will be as close to impossible as to make it not worth doing.

Hopefully sites just fucking ignore the law to the point where it may as well not exist, but it’s a really dangerous time for the internet as we know it. Minimise the potential reality of it at your peril.
