Have you considered that your husband could be on the spectrum? My FIL will often skip meals because he doesn’t sense that he is hungry. Ever. By that logic, he thinks my son won’t be hungry either because he himself isn’t. Luckily, my kiddo is a very verbal toddler and has a very assertive mom that continually checks in with a schedule and many demands.

Also, my FIL will get extra pissy and double down when you call out the flaw in his logic. Like if I say “just because you’re not hungry, doesn’t mean the kid isn’t hungry. You need to be better about checking on his needs,” he’ll just dismiss it out right and say “it’s fine” or “I’m making a big deal out of it.”

For this reason, he’s rarely ever left alone to watch his grandson alone—-aside from a quick hour away to run errands.
