It's not a good job though. What do they make like 50k, do you really think anyone with half a brain would voluntarily babysit belligerent poor people all day if they could do literally anything else? By paying so little we attract the lowest of the low, so it's no surprise they don't do a good job. It's not their fault, we're literally just talking about intellectual midgets here. Hell, everyone here know the people they went to school with who became cops are invariably not the brightest our society has to offer. Teaching has the exact same problem. Until we reform the ranks of society from which police and teachers come, this is an intractable problem.
