So lost, boyfriend and practically life partner of 3 years hit me last night. He blames me for it. What can I do?

I suspect that you're a smart person, thus "dump his ass" and "leave" probably occurred to you. I'll spare you the patronizing advice and offer an alternative resolution.

For starters, the only way you'll come out ahead in this situation is to make him feel like shit for the way he acted. I can tell you, based on my experiences, that the best way to accomplish that goal is to straight guilt-trip the brakes off of him. I'm talking full-on, shame-fest. FYI, it's crucial that you focus your language on how his conduct made you feel, as opposed to rehashing the facts/events from the night.

Secondly, acting maturely and approaching things from an adult perspective will go a long way. For instance, you should apologize for your own behavior. Bear in mind, this is a trick. You don't actually have anything to be sorry about - the idea is to riddle him with guilt/shame/self-loathing. That can go one of two ways, both of which are advantageous. Either he'll feel some righteous indignation about how you did deserve to get hit (which is asinine). Incidentally, if that's the case, he's a lunatic and you're lucky to find that out before he murders you. Or, he'll drown in a proverbial 'sea of sorrow.' Frankly, any man with half a brain knows that there's no justification for hitting a woman - short of her physically attacking you (which you didn't do). That is to say, despite what he says or does, he knows it was a punk-bitch move to hit you.

Now, here's the rub. Once you get the upper hand, you ghost the motherfucker. I'm not saying "pack and leave." I'm talking disappearance. Don't answer the phone when he's blowing you up. Don't tell him you're going away for a couple days. Don't pack anything while he's around. Just bounce. Ideally, you'd do that after you got an apology. It's more likely, though, that he's so ashamed of himself that he'll never admit any wrongdoing.

That being the case, you should apologize - fuck, even take the blame if you really wanna screw with his head - and then just bail. It's going to require a fair amount of discipline from your end, but take it on good advice that it'll work.
