Major causes of Colony Collapse Disorder (Deformed Wing Virus (DWV) & Varroa Mite) linked to the human movement of honeybee colonies

I agree, progress has been low but this paper is in addition to years of research on both pathogens and IS NOT saying that both Varroa mites and DWV are the only causes to CCD, but just one of the threats causing bee declines. The paper highlights how humans have played a huge role in the spread of this disease and yes we are untimely to blame for global bee declines from our movement of colonies across states or oceans to pollinate monocultures to the chemicals we use to control pests.

It is called synergistic effects, the pesticides, namely neonics, which have been heavily used since the 90s weaken the immune system and colony response. add on top of that emergent of diseases/pathogens from other bees, it makes it harder for bees to bounce back thus declines (as shown in high over winter deaths). YES, neonics are terrible, don't by produce that supports their use and yes big agro chemical firms are terrible and get things approved by the epa based on shady studies (the EPA does not conduct its own research but depends on industry studies) but they are one of a few reasons why bees are decline, BUT a major one at that.

HERE are the major lists of threats (to bees both Honey bees and the other 20,000 other bee species of the world:

Habitat loss and fragmentation- the loss of prairie habitat and desert scrub to urban sprawl and monoculture reduces both nesting and forging habitat for managed and wild bees Agricultural intensification- pesticides, GMOs, and other farming practices Pathogens and Diseases- Varroa Mite, DWV, nosema bombi, etc. Climate change- especially notable for non-managed bees; loss of climatically suitable area and mismatch in synchronized for specialized bee species
Invasive species, grazing, off road vehicles (ground nesting bees), etc.

Some threats are obviously more detrimental then others but it is all these things stacked against bees that are causing the loss at such a rate that it is. So yes BAN NEONICS like the EU, but lets look at how the whole system has screwed over the bee not just one aspect of it. Lets look at the little foraging habitat we give the bee and the monocultures, which bloom times don't cover a full flight season, leaving bee without nectar/pollen cause declines or how we truck bees around the country on sugar water (which is terrible for them) to different crops, causing a perfect network to spread diseases.
