Looks like you've made the decision not to go, which I agree with. I've met two of my online friends, one of whom I literally flew across the world to meet, and it went fantastic. But it took a hell of a lot more than 5 months of chat to earn that trust.
We had been online friends for over 7 years, during which we developed a close emotional bond.
We had hundreds of video calls.
We each other's introduced friends/family during some of these calls. My family and my friend's family all got together in one Skype video call prior to my big trip.
Our first meeting was at the airport, where we were surrounded by security.
The point I'm getting at is this: If you're putting yourself in such a vulnerable position, that person needs the kind of trust that he isn't going to earn in just a few months of texting. The fact you're even asking this shows he hasn't earned that yet.
Don't do it. Worst case scenario, you split with a guy you'll never meet, who you've only known a few months. Best case scenario, you don't end up the subject of a public service announcement.
