One time my friend and I were playing pool (I suck and still enjoy it, he sucks too but obviously has put in more effort into learning to play) next to this table of very masculine, tough looking black dudes, and my friend was so visibly agitated and embarrassed with us sucking at pool in front of these dudes, like he looked so annoyed and disappointed whenever him or I made a bad shot and was being all weird and self conscious. I’d never seen him act so self conscious before. I had a black bf in high school and this same friend would always enthusiastically give him a little hand shake and call him brotha and talk about what a cool dude he was whenever he would leave even though they’d hardly speak. I feel like a lot of white guys see black men as peak masculinity and just really want the black guys to think they’re cool.
