We had arranged for carers to come in since the three of us worked full time, but I worked in a school so I got all the school holidays off and would travel to mum's house to stay with her - I cooked, did the gardening and cleaning, took her shopping, whatever needed doing basically. My sibs, on the other hand, would visit maybe two or three times a year. I remember one year where I contacted them in September to warn them that I wouldn't be able to go to mum's that Christmas because I'd received a once in a lifetime invitation to go to Australia, thinking that this would give them ample time to work something out between them - nope, I got guilt tripped to hell and they put her in respite care before both taking expensive skiing holidays. After they put mum in the care home, I received an email telling me that "we" needed to "pull together" to clear out her house so they could sell it - and this consisted of me doing it pretty much on my own while instructions were barked at me down the phone.
