Recruitment is a part of my job, it doesn't make much sense to me to not disclose the salary prior to the interview, you're essentially just wasting everyone's time if it's below your candidates expectations.

Many years ago, when I was less experienced and perhaps a bit naive or desperate for work, I went to an interview in person that was a total fiasco. It was a days trip across the country, meaning I spent money on accommodation and transport and the hiring process was like a variety show.

The candidates were in a big room and had to do what I would consider to be kids team building games, we were given an item and 10 minutes and told to sell them this item as a product (this position was not in sales).

After we did our unusual tasks, I was told to remain and offered a management position, when I was told what the monthly pay was I said;

"Your advertisement listed a competitive salary, but the salary your offering doesn't even compete with unemployment benefits, this has been a waste of my time and money, you might be able to hire teenagers for these positions but you're certainly not going to find experienced staff members willing to work such long hours for barely any money"

They bit back saying that I would be lucky to find work with my attitude and in this industry you have to look at the overall benefits and not just the pay. Anyway, I was offered another position a few weeks later and 10 years on I am managing the entire company.
