Mansplaining Mansplaining Tonight In /r/TrollXChromosomes!

So you think it's equally dumb to use words like racist, homophobic, or sexist?

OK, show me in our conversation ONE time where I said using those terms was "dumb". Please do. You keep putting words in my mouth and I don't think it's fair, do you?

Because those words get thrown around here all the time and I don't why you're singling out this word as a particular problem.

I have never said the word or any of the words are a "problem". Again, show me where I said they were a problem in our conversation.

Using the term mansplaining doesn't dispose discussions into pointless "angry yelling matches". And honestly, if you start an angry yelling match because someone criticized you, the problem is you not the critic.

I am not saying the person being criticized isn't in the wrong. I am just saying if you want to change somebody's views there are better ways to do it. Here, let me give you an example. You don't seem to answer questions when I ask them, but I'm going to ask nicely you answer this next one: Which approach do you think would be better? This is based on an actual experience.

Somebody says "Does everything work..down there? Hur hur hur"

I could say: "That's ableist"

Or

I could say "Listen man. That joke was a little messed up. I mean, how would you like it if I called your sexual performance into question? It wouldn't feel too good, would it? I get it, it's just a stupid joke. But it still doesn't feel that great from my end. Do you get that?"

Again, which response do you think would open up better communication, a dialogue and possibly changing somebody's mind/views? I'm not saying the second option always works but in my experience it works better than the first option in changing the views of the person and the people around you.

Please answer this question, do you at the very least understand what I am trying to say? That there are better ways to get your point across?
