mental wall with one specific task

Psych yourself up beforehand? And set a deadline for yourself?

If I know a task is going to suck the life out of me like that, I usually set aside a time where I decide I'm just going to attempt to hyperfocus on it (though I had an ADHD coach who really taught me to harness the power of hyperfocus for things that I wouldn't naturally do so because they weren't interesting to me - she said basically that changing my self-talk - the narrative in my head - on those tasks could sometimes allow me to psych myself up for them, and it does work for me, but it's hard to explain how; this is why therapy/CBT/coaching is so critical to success, as much as medication in my view). It doesn't always work but I usually get somewhere and push through. If I don't, I try again later. Persistence is really key. A lot of these skills are like muscles, you have to use them and be uncomfortable and brain-sore, even when it sucks/hurts/etc. Granted, you shouldn't pick a profession where that happens all the time, so maybe a new profession is a solution if this is the bulk of your job.

Another thing I use is television (usually something I've seen before) for stimulation. It opens up my brain a bit. I'll miss like whole blocks of the show completely, so it's good if it's something I've seen and like (a favorite movie or TV show I like re-marathoning). But that doesn't work for everyone. For some, they get over-stimulated too and it's a distraction. For me, getting the right amount of stimulation is key and the problem is usually there's not enough, not that there's too much. Sometimes I'll put on music, TV (and hear them both), do a project, and do something else at the same time. I know multi-tasking is inefficient, but sometimes it's the only way for me.
