The American Embassy is extremely unlikely to be able to help you because Mexican law enforcement confiscated your ID and you fled with it in their custody. Yes, I know it was a shakedown and so does everyone else, but that's still the situation.

I don't really need their help with anything. I can easily replace my drivers license and I still have my passport and passport card. I don't drive here so other than identity theft concerns it's just a mild inconvenience. I was just wondering if they'd want to know that some mexican person illegally has my ID. I'm not sure what use a state drivers license is outside of the country.
