[Misc] Buy a cheap banger or spend more for a nicer car?

I honestly will never buy an expensive car again.

Once you get over your vanity, if you get to the point of "I dont give a shit" and you arent driving anywhere where it would be embarrassing to have a crap car, then buying a £200 car is feasible.

I bought a car for £200, off gumtree, full service history, I literally just drive it back and forth from work. It's a piece of crap, but it works and I actually feel weirdly (horribly) smug when I drive past some guy in a range rover thinking that I probably earn more than them, but Ive saved about £30,000+ of after tax income and still get to work exactly as fast as they do, listening to the same radio stations/MP3s.

Try it, it's liberating. Someone also reversed into it in the first month, I didn't care. It costs nothing to run. The battery died once, but apart from that it's not had any issues for almost a year (Nissan).

I think the key to finding a bargain is finding something with a big gash or cosmetic damage that vain people care more about, but with full service history.
