Missed first class of the day

Definitely talk to them this week. From the registrar:

Important Federal Guidelines for All Instructors Dear Instructor - In order to comply with Federal Title IV regulations, The Ohio State University will begin collecting information regarding whether a student begins attending or participating in class at the beginning of the semester. We are asking you to complete a “participation roster” at some point during the first week of classes. The roster allows you to answer either “yes” the student has attended or participated in some way, or “no” the student has not attended and has not participated. Note: that the default is set to “yes” so you only need to complete the roster if a student has not participated or attended. Examples of attendance or participation may include any of the following (based on federal guidelines): 1. Physically attending class at least once during the first week of instruction (for this purpose, does not need to attend each day the class meets) 2. Attending an online class 3. Submitting an academic assignment or exam (in person, email, or Carmen) 4. Attending a study group or special class meeting assigned by the instructor 5. Participating in an online discussion If there is a student in your class who has not participated in one of the ways outlined, please report that using the “participation roster” located within your Faculty Center. Click on the "grade roster" icon for your course and assign "no" for that student. For additional information, instructions and frequently asked questions, visit here. The participation roster should be completed prior to Sunday, August 27. Thank you for your assistance with this important process to remain compliant with federal regulations. -University Registrar
