lol, the anti gay-crowd doesn't need a "poster boy" to hate on gay men. They've been murdering us longer than the Jews, and we are always othered from 90+ percent of the world's heterosexual population in every era no matter where we are. The Code of Assura ordered us castrated, the Hebrews gave us death penalties, early Germanic tribes hung us, the Christian Roman Empire burned us, Europe criminalized us and gave us death penalties for 1,600 years, Hitler gas-chambered us 75 years ago, Europe was still chemically castrating us 65 years ago (RIP Alan Turing), the APA was labeling homosexuality as a disorder 45 years ago, the U.S. government let thousands of us die from AIDS and refused to fund HIV/AIDS research 30 years ago, states were still arresting us for “sodomy” 15 years ago, Hillary and Obama refused to support our right to marry 8 years ago, we still couldn’t get married in many states 3 years ago, we were massacred at a night club 10 months ago, 3 gay men were murdered in Tampa 4 months ago, Russia is putting us in concentration camps, and today we are still “illegal” in much of the world – sentenceable to prison in over 50 countries, sentenceable to death in more than 10 countries.

No other minority on earth has our track record of oppression. Heterosexuals will turn on gay men when it's convenient; they've done so for thousands of years (probably longer) and still do so today. So, yeah, gay men pretty much are noteworthy. You don't get targeted since the beginning of civilization if you aren't.
