Moved away, came back recently... observations.

I had clean driving record for almost 15 years: no accidents, no tickets, no damage. Within two years of living in Toronto: I racked up more parking tickets than I can even count for being 10 minutes over. My driving side window was smashed out in my building garage for nothing - a failed robbery attempt (and my friend actually laughed at me for locking my car doors a week earlier and verbatim said "no one's going to break into that mess, trust me" (i.e., car)!) I was moving then and neglected to clean it. Anyway, he was mistaken. In Toronto, they will even break into your car to rummage through what is so clearly garbage. (I only have what you see in the car: books, receipts and empty coffee cups); I was involved in a four car collision pushed into a TTC bus by vehicle #2 and rear-ended again by a goon who was driving so fast, he tore the front of his pick up truck and had to drive away without a license plate in the front of his car (imagine that ticket if the cops had caught him); I got a speeding ticket by some random cop that stepped out from behind a tree and walked out on the road (every day citizens are getting assaulted, robbed and killed, and the cop's are standing behind trees looking to make an extra buck); I wasted 30 minutes on another occasion to get a pointless warning ticket that one of my front headlights was out. They couldn't just let me know, they had to take my license and registration on their slow computers. The roads are so lit up in Toronto, you don't need headlights to see, this isn't Ridgeville! The cops in Toronto are horrible. They ride their horses leaving horse poop all over the city. When I was in the four car collision, we waited for over three hours for the cops to show up. At least five cruisers passed us each hour and basically said we have to wait until the cop assigned to our case shows up. What the hell are they doing, on break? USELESS! Construction workers are supposed to be directing traffic here, not cops. They are getting paid to do a construction workers job!

They are so utterly useless and incompetent, our shoppers drug mart was robbed last month, seven cruisers were in the parking lot, the store was shut down for two hours for an investigation, they caught the guys the very next day and no one had to get hurt/killed in the process. Two security guards were able to do what a dozen cops in our city couldn't (take a machete from a sick person) as would any worker in a mental health facility. These people are trained to handle stressful situations, our cops know how to direct traffic. Put a cop in a situation where a kid with no one on the train but him was shot several times and then tasered because our cops are utterly incompetent and the one couldn't handle the pressure of being teased and taunted by a kid who was high. Instead of trying to calm the situation, the dumb ass cop in court says "was I supposed to ask if he wanted a glass of water"! How did this idiot ever get a police badge.

I know this is totally off topic, but if cops were more competent and organized in this city, the city would be safer place for both drivers and pedestrians. We have immature, inexperienced cops patrolling the city, so I don't feel safe walking anywhere in the dark and prefer to drive. A university professor and cancer researcher was stabbed to death not too far from me a little over a week ago, and catching the murderer is not a priority for them. They are rewarded for handing out tickets, not catching criminals or getting murderers off the street, making our streets safer for walking at night.
